There's mention of this on the Urban Myths thread, which I added to, but the details there were talking about it being in 1966. I've spoken to a few friends and my parents who all remember it being in the early 70s - it was on the back of a lorry (not a glass case) and it was anywhere from 20 to 100 feet long (depending on whose memory is best!) My father reckons you could walk inside its mouth, though I find that hard to believe!
Anyone else remember any more?
I was featured on either Look North or the Tyne Tees version, so maybe it's in their archives somewhere?

Hi Peter, i seem to remember it was early 70's - and the stink of it !! There was a mirror attached to the top of it somehow, to show where it exhaled water. It had some kind of coating applied to its skin !! I don't remember if its mouth was open or shut !

It was in the early seventies. It did the rounds of the North East and appeared on the back of a lorry in the market place. Along with harpoons and general whaling info. I would say probably 1972 or 1973. No later.

It was definitely early 70s. 1971 or early 1972. My grandparents took me. It was on a low loader and yes, you could step inside...I did!

it was 1970 i remember going to see it and yes u could step inside we moved away from bishop in 1971

u could go into its mouth it was 1971 an the smell was nasty my little brother fred screamed blue murder when i tried to take him in
