I worked in the building when it was the old Area Education Office. The classroom partitions were still there then. Our offices were also in the part opposite the Belvedere that looks a bit like a house front. That had an upstairs to it with very small rooms that could have been bedrooms originally. Was this part used by a live-in headteacher like the Grammar School's "Old House"? Before that I had piano exams there in the Music Service end in the late 70s / early 80s.

I was down there this week paying for an instrument and Removals were in the process of moving the instruments etc. out. The Music Service moves to Aycliffe from today.
(On the subject of the King James Old House I could see part of the back from the St. Anne's car park and it looked like the music room and other rear rooms still survive).

Hi All Thanks for that snippet of information Rusty, about Mrs Metcalf!!! She was the dragon my memory had scrubbed!. God what a nightmare of a teacher, memories I dont really want to recall. Mind you, saying that, I think some of the kids today could do with half an hour of her particular type of teaching. lol!!
